UberEATS Enters SouthEast Asia

Update: Uber eats will begin at 11 am on May 25.

UberEats is a dedicated app from Silicon Valley’s ride sharing company, Uber. UberEats was just launched in the US in early 2015 and it was  first available in Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto, Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Melbourne, New York, Paris, Seattle and Washington DC. Uber is now expanding into the crowded food delivery space in Asia by launching UberEATS in Singapore.

The food delivery service was originally launched as a tangential offering to its ride sharing service, but the company quickly discovered that they needed to have a dedicated app. UberEATS is available for Google Android and iOS and offer food for delivery from hundreds of local restaurants, seven days a week. Additionally, the app offers instant delivery which allows customers to receive food in as little as 10 minutes. Users can search by restaurant or cuisine to find just what they are looking for.

Uber is already facing stiff competition from Grab in the ride sharing space, but now they will also be going head to head vs FoodPanda and Deliveroo. Given their past history of using their extensive cash to drive growth, it is likely that they will do the same in the food delivery space. While the handful of companies in this space fight each other for market share, the customers will come out ahead as the discounts rain down.
