Search Engines in Asia

Google is by and large the dominant search engine in most of Asia and they don’t face any of the competition that they see in the US from search portals like Bing, Yahoo, Yandex, DuckDuckGo etc. In most countries in Asia, Google has nearly 100% of the market; however, Asia is one of the places in the world with some notable exceptions to Google’s world domination.

China

The most popular search engine in China is Baidu followed closely by So.com. Google made the decision to leave the Chinese market as a result of censorship, so they are used by only a small handful of people.

Japan

Yahoo is the most popular search engine in Japan, however, Yahoo Japan uses a Google algorithm for organic search.

Taiwan

Same as Japan, Yahoo is very popular, but really the search is all Google.

Indonesia

Google is the dominant search engine, but Baidu is making a play to acquire more general Internet uses and they produce an entire mobile experience just for Indonesia.

Vietnam

Google is the dominant search engine, but they face rising competition from a recent entrant CoCoc.
